Soil & Water Corpsmember
Soil and Water Corpsmembers are placed within a Minnesota Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) or other host agencies during the summer, learning hands-on skills in managing soil and water resources. They serve alongside and are supervised by SWCD staff. Corpsmembers assist with service and groundwater monitoring programs, wetland and watercourse inventories and assessments; prepare documents for cost-share and easement programs; conduct field surveys and site inspections and prepare reports; and coordinate and conduct educational programs and activities. Corpsmembers may also communicate with local landowners to develop management plans, gather input on best practices and provide education materials on water resources.

Entry level, no prior experience required
Term: May August, May October, May December, or June December
Locations across Minnesota and North Dakota
Typical schedule: Full-time 40 hours per week. Schedule varies depending on host site and projects.
Benefits:
Stipend: $1,610 - 1,876/month
Education award: $1,678 - $3,172 that can be used on qualifying student loans or education expenses
Up to 20% of time spent on skills training, development, and certifications
Health insurance
Childcare assistance
Student loan forbearance on qualifying loans
Access to member assistance fund
Networking and career development events and opportunities
Access to the AmeriCorps alumni network
Qualifications:
US Citizen, national, or permanent resident (per AmeriCorps eligibility guidelines)
Ability and desire to work well with others in a team setting, outdoors and in all weather conditions
Commitment to upholding Corps values of safety, service, respect, equity and community
High school degree, GED, or willingness to work towards obtaining a GED
Academic and/or field experience in natural resources preferred.
Knowledge of GIS software and GPS use preferred.
Farming and agricultural knowledge including tractor operation and/or trailer pulling experience is preferred.
