Conservation Intern - US Fish and Wildlife Service

AmeriCorps Conservation Interns (ages 18-25) serve alongside natural resource professionals with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service at the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge or U.S. Forest Service at the Chippewa National Forest. Each internship is focused to help develop the Conservation Interns professional skill sets while providing expertise and valuable contributions to the host site. Conservation Interns receive training, supervision and guidance from experienced agency and Conservation Corps staff, learning hands-on skills in managing natural resources and conducting public outreach.

Conservation Interns will be assigned to one of these areas:
-- Visitor and outreach services (Bloomington, Walker or Deer River, MN)
-- Road monitoring, inventory and survey (Cass Lake, MN)
-- Archaeology and heritage resources (Cass Lake, MN)

Job Details:
-- AmeriCorps service position (ages 18-25)
-- Term: May 14 • August 10, 2018
-- Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. typical. Some evening and weekend hours may be required.
-- Stipend: $1355/mo
-- Education award: $1538.36 upon successful completion of term

Locations:
Housing is not provided for the Bloomington (Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge) location. Intern must secure their own housing near Bloomington, MN. Housing is provided for the Cass Lake, Walker and Deer River (Chippewa National Forest) locations.

-- Bloomington, MN with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge)
-- Cass Lake, MN with the U.S. Forest Service (Chippewa National Forest)
-- Walker, MN with the U.S. Forest Service (Chippewa National Forest)
-- Deer River, MN with the U.S. Forest Service (Chippewa National Forest)

Qualifications:
-- Ability to work outdoors in varied terrain and all weather conditions.
-- Strong communication skills, with the ability to educate and interact with members of the public.
-- Valid drivers license and good driving record.
-- Academic and/or field experience in natural resources preferred.
-- Strong planning, organization, communication and creative thinking skills.
-- Knowledge of GIS software and GPS use preferred

Requirements:
-- 18-25 years old.
-- Valid drivers license and good driving record.
-- Full term of service must be completed in order to receive the education award.
